Hi all, I have a real big problem you see yesterday I ran avast pro and it found a virus in memorey (autoplay.exe) so I moved it to the chest and then it told me to run a boot scan so I did. The boot scan found 2 (both in different directorys but both named autoplay.exe) infected files so I moved them to the chest. Then I ran an online bitdefender scan it found 4 infected files, then I ran a trendprotect scan and it found a trojan. So then I thought I should do a clean install. I have an hp so there are 2 partions c: and recovrey partion d: so I used my 8 disc set to reinstall windows xp. so when I finish with the recovery discs I reinstalled avast pro and it found the virus agian autoplay.exe. But what I do not under stand is that I moved the files to the chest firt and after I reinstalled windows it got back again. Please help!

usually, autoplay.exe is not a virus. It is a necessary file (on many cd’s) that give the command to automatically play when inserted into the cd-rom drive.
many other files use this type of command as well

    However that being said:
Some malware camouflage themselves as AutoPlay.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder.
You should not usually have autoplay.exe in those folders. if you do, it may be malware (spyware, trojan, etc).

If flagged as malware and sent to the chest / vault and then reappearing would suggest that this instance is not an infection but a necessary executable file.

Restoring windows will not remove it, whereas a clean reinstallation will do, if it appears after that then it is not malware, but system file.

Bindo.A aka autoply.exe is a worm designed to spread and infect as many computers as possible by copying itself under names like autoply.exe or MSshare.exe. It also creates a file called AUTORUN.INF in all drives it copies itself to, in order to be run every time that the drive is accessed

Remove with online scan from BitDefender:
    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

The default setting is to scan all of your computer, which is the safest option. Under the ‘Settings’ the default option is for BitDefender to try and clean the infected files. There is a warning that if disinfection fails, the files will be deleted.
