Last year my desktop started acting up despite norton . I took it in the shop and they said it was infected with spyware and viruses.
They installed a program and gave me a disc. I scan it about 3 times a week and it aways picks up stuff.
Mostly the same though.
I don’t think I can use that disc on the laptop I got for Christmas, so I wonder if I should buy a new versin or does anyone have a good solution, since it is likely I visit the same sites with my laptop than with my desktop, so I seem bound to pick up some bad stuff
thaank you chameleon, I go to these sites on a n alost daily basis, lots of them are game related and Yahoo and msn do it too, they are not evil..so not going there is not an option., so thanks forr the link

Anybody that names some spyware programs to download, be sure to check them against this list
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
To get rid of stubborn spyware you can also scan in safe mode by restarting your PC while tapping the “F8” key – this will start your PC in “safe mode”. When your computer is in safe mode scan with all these programs and then trash what ever they find.
All are 100% free unless otherwise noted

Also, to help avoid getting spyware don’t use Internet Explorer.
As the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team says:
"There are a number of significant vulnerabilities in technologies related to the IE domain/zone…It is possible to reduce exposure to these vulnerabilities by using a different web browser"

if you know where you are gettting the spyware from, don’t go to those sites.

spyware, like antivirus programs need to be updated. there are 2 free ones which I recommend. spybot search & destroy (free) and there is a free one available from lavasoft’s website as well (the personal edition) http://www.lavasoft.de – the easiest way to avoid spyware is to stop going to those type of sites… stick to well travelled sites such as yahoo, MSN & avoid off the wall sites which just come up with searches. also, don’t install any toolbars (all active x controls are evil and slow down the system anyways… )
