if the computer is shut off then no it cant do anything. but all you have to do to remove it is download malware anti bytes and run that. have yourself a good anti virus program and run that. download ccleaner and make sure you just thoroughly clean your computer. also run the malware antibytes while your computer is in Safe Mode so you can make sure you find any other hidden viruses that might be hiding inside your system

it depends on what Trojan you get there are many types
one type of Trojan fills up your hard drive until it finally crashes it
another Trojan turns your computer in to a bot that sends out spam emails and viruses
another type of trojan renames all your files
and getting rid of trojan virus is not as easy as people think some are memory resident meaning that it is stored in memory and when your anti virus finds a virus and deletes it when you close windows down it rewrites it back to the hard drive

First, a Trojan Horse program and a Virus are two different things.
A Trojan horse, you may recall is an object with hidden gifts. It is how the Greeks finally conquered Troy. However, in the computer sense, It is a program that may appear to be something else. On top it might even be something useful as it quietly installs something that is generally harmful.
A virus is something that is generally spread by copying. It rides along with programs and disks and quietly installs itself on other computers if it can.
A number of Trojan horse programs can do any number of things including but not limited to key loggers, control of the computer, copying address books, etc.
A virus can do just about anything it wants. Some in the past have simply deleted everything on the computer after a specific date.
All types of malware need the computer to be on and running at least long enough for them to install. Once they run and/or install, it can often do it’s dirty work in a fraction of a second. So turning off a computer only delays the problem and really does nothing to prevent it unless you never turn the computer on from the day it is new. Because once you turn it on, like most people you’ll access the internet and do normal things and at that point, you are vulnerable. To keep a computer clean, you’d have to never do so many things that it really would be nearly useless.
It is really impractical to buy a computer and not use it for what it was intended. This is why there are a number of anti-virus programs available that try to prevent malware from getting onto your computer. I generally suggest AVG and Ad Aware with Zonealarm. All of them have free versions available.
You can leave your computer off and unplugged and use it for a doorstop, but you can probably find a rock that would be a lot less expensive and work just as well for a doorstop.

You are not specific in threat information you are asking, as just in viruses there are now over one million. Which threat are you talking about ? Generally called a loaded question in hackers lounge. A certain malware package can indeed wake the computer from Hibernation and do its bidding while you are asleep – yes.
You forgot one key point — did you remove the phone connection ?

A Trojan virus is faulty computer program that can infect remote computers by changing the desktop or deleting important files. Generally called a Trojan Horse, it appears as a legitimate file or software from a trusted source, therefore tricking users into opening it or downloading it. Take action and protect your personal computer files by learning to delete this Trojan virus.
