  I like the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don’t let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

  In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

  Pick and choose at least 2 anti-spywares from the list below and alternate scanning with them on a regular basis. New spywares are created literally hourly, so no single anti-spyware can really detect all malware. Have at least 2 on hand and alternate scanning with each every few days or so. All are free.   AVG from grisoft.com is the best free antivirus. Spybot Search and Destroy and Lavasoft’s Ad-Aware are even-steven on best spyware removal.

  for antivirus, many would argue AVG free edition.

  As for spyware, products like "Ad-Aware Se Personal" (lavasoft.com) or "Spybot Search and Destroy" are ideal for spyware.

  the best and only thing i’ve used for years and highly recommend is adaware se. with it you can run a number of scans. i always run a full system scan every day or 2. no need for norton, mcfee or any of those. try it adaware se. its free for private use!!!!

  AVAST is good. Take a look at CyberDefender. It offers a free program that looks good.
  Also, go to CNET/downloads/freeware or softpedia.com for lists of free security programs which include ratings, reviews, specifics, and views of window.

  It has good downloads to detect and eliminate virus/trojans/spyware
